Service Description

Wilderness First Aid Workshop May 4, 2024 10AM - 3PM Description: Are you someone who loves to get outside and explore in the outdoors? Or has knowing little about how to take care of yourself and others if a less serious incident were to happen prevented you from getting out more often? If you answered, “yes,” to either one of those questions or are just curious to learn more about Wilderness First Aid then this is the workshop for you! On Saturday, May 4, 2024, a Wilderness First Aid Workshop will be held at draft creative space from 10am - 3pm. This workshop will consist of learning more about how to recognize, treat and prevent some of the most common injuries seen in the wilderness, including the following: heat injuries, ankle rolls, shoulder dislocation, blisters, and more. We will go through how to approach a victim in an incident and what pertinent questions to ask them in order to help them. We will interact with one another with lots of hands-on practice of treating blisters, wrapping rolled ankles, creating a sling and then end the workshop with one large final group scenario to help us practice what to do in case we wonder upon a scene of an incident in the outdoors. And yes, we will be practicing our incidents and scenarios outside, so please dress for the weather! :) We will also be inside to do some learning as well! Because this workshop occurs in the beginning of summer, we will also discuss the signs and symptoms of hyperthermia, heat exhaustion, heat stroke, ways to prevent it, how to treat it and when to evacuate someone should it start to occur in the wilderness. We will also discuss signs and symptoms of dehydration, treating for bug bites and treating for poison ivy/poison oak. Other tips on how to keep yourself safe in a wilderness environment will be shared and practiced during this workshop as well. One scenario we will practice will include what to do if there is ever a thunderstorm or tornado occurring while you're in the backcountry. Finally, the instructor, will provide bagged examples of what poison ivy looks like and pictures of what a rash may look like. Small snacks and coffee will be provided during this workshop to help keep you energized and alert. Please bring your own lunch as we will have a 30minute lunch break at 12:30PM Participants will also go home with a Wilderness FIrst Aid booklet about each topic covered and a mini Wilderness First Aid Kit. Email: for questions!
